Way back in 2018, the MetroNET plans to run an electric train line through the road reserve on the grounds of Ellenbrook Christian College (ECC) brought consternation and concern from members of the College community, with enrolment concerns and noise pollution dominating the carpark conversations on Santona Boulevard.
Fast forward five years and new Principal Mrs Gigi Thiele has hit the ground running, with new marketer Mr Sherwyn Bremner working with politicians, stakeholders, and community representatives to ensure that the MetroNET rail line continues to be a source of benefit for the College moving forward.
“The MELConnx group have been amazing in providing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses for our secondary students and the MetroNET team has kept us up to date with everything that is happening in each stage of the project, as we have watched it progress,” said Mr Bremner this week.
A sports pavilion on the far side of the train track is about to be signed off by contractors, with the change rooms and facilities expected to be built over the course of 30 weeks.
Rather than being daunted by the train passing by the College grounds, Mrs Thiele sees this as an opportunity to showcase the ECC point of difference to the wider community.
“This has always been a College that has welcomed and included everyone, from all cultures. It is significant that this project continues that legacy for us – our dedication for new and existing families allows us to show love, grace, and care to everyone who comes through our doors or sees us from the windows of a passing train!” said Mrs Thiele this week.
