SHCC Year 10 students continue Kurrawang legacy

Monday morning saw the Year 10 students and teachers set off from East Perth before dawn in order to reach Kalgoorlie and make acquaintances with the team at CAPS Kurrawang.
“This experience is part of the Rite Journey program, encouraging students to explore questions like ‘What is my purpose?’ and ‘What do I have to give?’ in their lives”, said Mr Joel Vallance – Head of Secondary, SHCC.

“They’ll have the chance to make a positive impact and serve the needs of the local community over the course of the five days.”

After arriving, the group settled into their dorms and then enjoyed a stunning sunset ceremony on Mount Charlotte. The evening wrapped up stories under the stars at Lake Douglas.
Tuesday was Bush Day, with the students walking from CAPS Kurrawang into the bush to build cubby houses, cook stew and damper over the fire for lunch, and have fun on rope swings and climbing trees.

The chance for our students to connect with the little ones of CAPS Kurrawang is priceless, with the long-term relationships built between the SCEA school and this CAPS school growing deeper and deeper every year.
The students return to Perth this afternoon.
