On Friday, 9 August, Swan Christian College (SCC) was proud to host the ‘Jobs Galore 2024 – Investing in the Next Generation’ business breakfast, drawing over 400 guests to the College Gymnasium.
The event, supported by the Swan Chamber of Commerce, brought together nearly 200 students from 12 local high schools and 200 business owners and professionals. The Chamber, committed to ‘adding social capital to the community’, sponsored 210 students to enable them to mix with potential future employers.
A highlight of the morning was a memorable grand entrance, where three panellists and Swan Chamber of Commerce President, Mr Mike Matich, arrived by helicopter on the College’s basketball court!
The panel featured notable figures:
- Mr Steve Thomas, Managing Director of Train & Retain, who has mentored hundreds of apprentices,
- Toppy, one of Hanssen Construction’s leading hands who influences workers daily;
- Ezereve (Kat Eggleston), a musician and arts industry trainer, and
- Steven Davies, Principal of St Mark’s Anglican Community School.
Each panellist shared valuable insights, encouraging students to pursue their dreams and work hard toward career success.
Mr Gerry Hanssen, Vice President of the Swan Chamber of Commerce and founder of Hanssen Construction, expressed his delight in seeing a long-held dream come true. A lifelong advocate for community-minded business, Gerry emphasised that business leaders should focus on ‘giving back and building real community, rather than simply making money.’
The event was catered by Swan Christian College’s Hospitality Training Centre and offered an inspiring platform for students to network with professionals and explore future career opportunities.
With ‘Jobs Galore 2025’ already scheduled, the expectation is for an even bigger and more interactive event next year!
