Northshore Christian Grammar School’s (NCGS) Arts Festival took place on Friday, 13 September 2024, and showcased the school community’s talent, creativity, and spirit.
NCGS Principal, Mr Stuart Chisholm, was overwhelmed by the strong response from the parent community, who came out in droves to view the wonderful work on display.
“It’s just been great to see everyone embracing the cultural aspects of life here,” said Mr Chisholm at the event.
“Myself, I enjoy surrealist paintings and abstract art, but these portraits and still-lifes are just exceptional from our students. Our Art staff (Ms Tanisha Burtnyk, Ms Sarah Ingham and Ms Michelle Verster) have excelled themselves and worked extra hard to ensure student work is showcased for all to see.”
The Primary student’s work showcased various visual art mediums, from textile techniques and clay creations to paintings and printmaking.
The Middle School students took realism to new heights in the art, applying sophisticated painting techniques to still-life scenes and portraits. Their explorations with charcoal and original skateboard designs also offered a glimpse into their creativity and freedom of expression.
Senior School students presented thought-provoking works with themes of portraiture, still-life, and environmental art.
The textile students wowed guests with wearable art pieces and fabric prints inspired by nature, while the ‘Make Do and Mend’ movement of the 1940s influenced the Year 11 and 12 students’ apron designs.
The woodwork on display featured beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail, showing everything from vehicles to furniture.
The festival was a reminder of the vital role the Arts play in keeping the students’ imaginations alive and offering hope for the future.
