During a recent assembly at Southern Hills Christian College (SHCC), two student leaders shared personal experiences that showcased the strength of perseverance and support from the SHCC community.
SHCC Head Girl, Tameka, recounted the health challenges that greatly impacted her early secondary years, leaving her feeling behind academically and socially.
After several unsuccessful attempts to secure junior leadership roles, she felt discouraged.
However, the encouragement of one teacher transformed her situation.
Prompted to try again, she succeeded, marking a pivotal moment in her life that demonstrated the power of self-belief and the significance of supportive mentors.

SHCC Head Boy, Ethan, told his story of a journey of transformation through care and dedication.
He faced challenges with attendance at a previous school, which persisted even after he transferred to SHCC.
A critical moment occurred when two SHCC teachers visited his home, motivating him to reconnect with school life.
Their belief in him ignited a shift that renewed his dedication to his education and personal development.

Acting Principal, Mr. Rod McNeill, commended the student leaders for their courage in sharing their experiences.

These moving stories remind us of the essential role that SCEA staff play in fostering an environment of encouragement and support.
The recent visit by Dr Ian Lambert (Principal—Scots College, Sydney) echoed the sentiments of our SCEA philosophy of equipping and empowering those we serve to experience life in all its fullness:
“When it is done well, schooling is the most important building block in a young person’s life. Christianity in schools can supercharge what you’re doing in the lives of young people.”
SCEA staff are in a ‘life-changing’ business, one that shapes young people for lives full of purpose.
Let’s continue to be encouraged by these amazing stories from our students and their families!
