The SCEA Board paused during last week’s Board meeting at the SCEA Head Office to smile for the camera and admire their new Boardroom!
Visitors to the SCEA Head Office may have noticed the presence of workmen and ‘tradies’ scuffling in and out of the meeting rooms and new spaces created over recent months.
The shower and toilet facilities have been refurbished, new communal spaces have been created, as well as open-plan work spaces, and now the Boardroom has new chairs and a television for presentations.
SCEA’s Board Chair, Mr Craig Clark, was particularly enamoured by the large display screen installed in the Boardroom, remarking that he is looking forward to ‘watching AFL during the Board meetings – only in the background, of course!’
The reality is that the Board meetings tend to be ‘jam-packed’, with the team seeking to get through a month’s worth of operations across the seven SCEA schools in just four or five hours on a Thursday afternoon.
Last week, this included an ICT Presentation from Mr Wayne Fewster (Head of ICT – SCEA) on the SCEA-wide infrastructure refresh (as outlined in the Cisco telephone article). He also spoke out about the cybersecurity initiatives being rolled out through the ‘Phishing’ campaign (also profiled in another SCEA News article this week).
Recent cyber breaches at large Australian businesses such as Optus and JB Hi-Fi have resulted in reputational damage and even financial losses through the ‘ransomware’ campaigns being commissioned by hackers and online criminals.
All of this falls on the shoulders of the SCEA Board, as they are required to be across all areas of risk and governance for the SCEA organisation.
Board members also take time out to be part of SCEA sub-committees that report back to the SCEA Board on different aspects of the operations, including Finance, Education, Risk, and Christian Culture.
